Living in Smithtown

Where to live in Smithtown ? In Nesconset of course, it is safe, quiet, offers so much to families, it is close to everything and has the best schools. The hamlet of Nesconset was one of the last sections in the Town of Smithtown to develop being it was so heavily wooded. Even though the community has grown, its natural ambiance has largely remained intact and it has a lot of community spirit. Neighborhoods feature various ranch styles, capes, Colonials as well as newer Colonials and Victorians that sit even now on spacious properties.

Initiated in 1989, “Nesconset Day” is held at Nesconset Plaza (a 15 minute walk from our home), which has 24 stores and restaurants and a public library. Each year since, the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce sponsors our festival. You are sure to have fun at this local celebration with its vendors, artisans, and food stands found along the streets with live entertainment generally near the Gazebo. Other Nesconset annual events not to miss is our : 5k run/walk, Gala, Casino Night, Holiday Lighting’s, Craft Fair/Flea Market and Summer Concert Series.

The Nesconset area comprises tranquil neighborhoods, parks and small shopping strips boating about 100 stores mostly along Smithtown Boulevard and Lake Avenue. In addition, there is the Smith Haven Mall (a 5 minute drive, 15 minute bike ride or 45 minute leisurely walk from our home), it offers more than 140 stores and eateries. Recreational areas include Andreoli Park, which has a freshwater pond where fishing is allowed (no permit is needed), playground, ball and tennis courts. Sprofera Park proposes a playground, roller hockey rink and ball fields. The 115-acre Lake Ronkonkoma County Park, is a nature preserve with walking paths, also in Nesconset.

In addition to Nesconset’s private schools like Cleary School for the Deaf and St Patrick Elementary, Nesconset’s, Smithtown School District is rated among the best in the country. Keep in mind when you purchase a home that Nesconset is within both the Sachem and Smithtown school districts. As you know, our home is in Smithtown School District 1.
